Types of Welding Machines
A welding machine is basically a tool that’s used for welding and bonding two metals together. The most common type of welding is gas welding, also known as oxy-fuel welding. In this type of welding, the gas is focused on a specific target and a flame is started. The temperature of the welding flame can go as high as 3,100 degrees Celsius. It’s primarily used for welding high-alloy steels. However, there are a number of different kinds of welding processes and machines that are used today.
If you are in the market for a new machine, here are just some of the many types of welding machines that you should know about:
The MIG Welding Machine
Widely revered as the most versatile welding machine available in the market today, the MIG welding machine can be used in high-grade manufacturing plants or even for home use. The machine itself can be customised and used for welding a variety of different metals, such as aluminium, stainless steel, or even mild steel. There are plenty of companies that produce MIG welding machines. They are in demand because they are versatile and easy to use. The MIG welding machine can be used for numerous welding applications.
The Spot Welding Machine
Another common type of welding machine is a spot welding machine. As the name suggests, these machines can be used to join as many as four overlapping stainless steel plates. The thickness of each sheet can be as much as 3 mm. If you are using the machine for only two sheets, the thickness of each sheet can be as high as 6 mm. The spot welding machine requires electricity to work. The strength at the welding spot is extremely high. However, because the welding isn’t continuous, the overall sturdiness is relatively lower than conventional welding techniques.
TIG Welding Machine
The TIG welding machine is a more specialised version of the conventional MIG welding machine. It’s designed for high-precision work and can be used for welding different types of metals in a single welding operation. Common metals that can be welded with this machine include aluminium, copper, bronze, mild steel, stainless steel, magnesium, gold, nickel, and chrome alloys.
Plastic Welding Machine
One of the newer machines in the market, the plastic welding machine uses an entirely different process for welding. The machine is designed for welding plastic materials together. Obviously, conventional welding processes cannot be used for welding plastic materials. The film is actually fused in the machine before being applied to the plastic material, which enhances the bond. The plastic welding machine is still in the early stages of its development, and only recently have industries begun to use it for high-quality applications.
These are just some of the most common type of machines available in the market that can be used for welding. Obviously, some of these are designed for more specific applications and cannot be used for conventional welding around the house.
