Signs You Need to Call a Plumber
Plumbing emergencies are often embarrassing, time consuming and expensive. They’re also quite uncomfortable. If you have an emergency that’s sufficiently disruptive, you might not have running water for several days. There are several different plumbing emergencies that become so problematic that you don’t have running water. Some problems are completely preventable, but you won’t be able to prevent them if you don’t recognise the warning signs. If you do identify the circumstances that lead to catastrophic plumbing problems, you can successfully prevent them. At the first sign of any of these problems, you should call a plumber and make an appointment.
Multiple Blockages
When you have one drainage problem in a fixture, it’s probably that something is stuck in that fixture. Depending on which fixture it is, you can probably guess what the problem is. If you have a bathtub backed up, you probably have some soap and/or hair caught up in the drain. If your bathroom sink is clogged, it’s probably hair or soap as well. However, if your toilet is backed up, you might have toilet paper clogging it. Whatever the case may be, you can snake it or try to plunge it. You can also use some liquid drain rooter, but you shouldn’t make a habit of that.
However, a serious indication of a problem is if multiple fixtures are blocked up. If your sink and your bathtub are blocked up, you might have a real problem. You should attempt to unclog these drains; it’s possible multiple blockages are just a coincidence. If they do not drain, then your clog is further along. The plumbers at Woolley’s Plumbing can diagnose it for sure, but there’s a good chance you have a blockage at the sewer main. That can be incredibly expensive and difficult to fix. It can also back up and spew sewage into your house. You should make sure that you call a plumber as soon as you see those symptoms prevent them from becoming bigger problems.
Signs of Leaking
There are several signs of leaking water. Some of them are overt, and some are not so easy to spot. You should look at your ceiling. Discolouration in your ceiling is a good sign of water damage. You should also look for discolouration in your walls as well. One of the most common leakage spots is under the sink. Underneath the sink, your leaky fixtures might drip water for years before it gets noticed. That can undermine the quality of the wood and create a fertile ground for mould to grow.
In addition to the problems that water can create, mould can be a serious health risk. That health risk requires a pretty big investment to solve.
Odd Coincidences
If you have odd coincidences, you could have a problem. For example, if you turn on your faucet and the toilet starts bubbling, you have an odd coincidence. Those types of things typically indicate that you have a clog somewhere in the main. That needs to be addressed quickly.
